Leafs might trade (a resigned) Zaitsev pre-expansion draft for a better D.
RH top4 D-man AND exempt from Expansion Draft.

That might just help getting a top 2 D-man to Leafs..

Indeed a promising future, looking forward to it. Question is, will they lose pieces from this team that gave them the forward direction?

Not specifically trading Zaitsev, but the idea of trading a defenseman that is exempt from expansion draft for a defender that is not exempt, but considered better, to a team that can't protect everyone they have. Being exempt could add it's own value depending on a team's situation.

It does seem like Anaheim may be our best bet for a D upgrade. The question is what it will cost.

we can trade from our depth at forward. kapanen is exempt and could be attractive to anaheim.

How about a real trade discussion. Tanev may be one of the guys the Leafs look at although the age and injury history isn't all that attractive.

good contract though. i didn't realize how injured he's been. 27 seems fine for where the team is at.

There is no question that earlier in the year Vancouver fans were being a little dumb with their assessment of what Tanev might fetch, but this is lowballing pretty badly I think. Lots of teams need defense

He's got a great cap hit also, so its gunna be a bit more than robidas islanders.

The return would be good if they put him up, but I am not sure they do that? He won't fetch another top pairing D or first line forward. It would have to be future stuff and Vancouver would have to decide to well and truly blow it up.

Marincin was and is a plug...great at following players and watching them score he is basically a Phaneuf-lite.. we have Polak and not mini-pylon, and we take this series..great effort regardless Leafs!

Leafs can easily get a good top4 d-man this offseason.

Some teams (Ana, Wpg) in expansion draft troubles.
As well, Leafs can trade for a player that LV has traded for.

e.g. LV trades for D-man X.
Leafs trade JVR to LV for that D-man.
(LV can't trade players they took in expansion draft, but they can make additional drafts).

I think it's going to be a crazy off-season.
